Breaking Out of the Box: How to Make Custom Gifts Work for You

Custom gifts can be as unique as your client.



Sometimes, a stock item is exactly what your client wants, no muss, no fuss.  Other times, a slight modification will do the trick.  Still other times, though, the box is just too limiting, and thinking outside of it becomes not only a good idea, but absolutely essential.

Maple Ridge Farms traditionally does 20-25% of orders each year in custom gifts!  Whether designing a gift from scratch or modifying an existing item, custom gifts are something that you can offer your client to give yourself an edge over the competition.

Knowing the details about your client's situation gives you unique opportunities.  Whether it's a theme or event, a regional preference or a particular set of circumstances; you can tailor your proposal to target an aspect your client might not have considered but is exactly what they want.

A large corporation was hosting a conference in New Orleans around Mardi Gras.  Rather than a stock room gift, their distributor contacted Maple Ridge Farms to put together a Mardi Gras-themed tower.  Selecting beautifully-colored boxes was only the start.  Traditional Southern snacks such as pecan pralines and Cajun peanuts were combined with fun Mardi Gras party supplies for a room gift sure to be remembered!

Another company had their offices under construction.  Rather than presenting a traditional gift basket, their distributor came up with a unique idea: a hard hat!  The distributor finding a hard hat to send to Maple Ridge Farms was only the beginning.  Maple Ridge Farms designed a basket around the hard hat, filling it with plenty of goodies and packing it safely for transportation to the client.  The hard hat served as a lasting reminder while at the same time providing a fun way to present the client's gifts.

Birthday programs present another fun opportunity.  A distributor wanted something unique to for their client to send as birthday gifts.  Maple Ridge Farms came up with a sweet option: custom birthday cookies packed in a colorful box with balloons and a noisemaker, everything they'd need to start a party!  Set up as a release program, it was a no-brainer for the client; they needed only submit their list for Maple Ridge Farms to send out the perfect little gift.

If you don't see the perfect gift for your client, it never hurts to contact your supplier to gauge the possibility of providing a custom gift.  Minimums can vary widely--from dozens to thousands--so be certain to work closely with both your client and your supplier to ensure that what your client wants is feasible.  With the appropriate allowances in place, the sky's the limit!  Keep your options open, and you may just be surprised by what will result.
