Promoting a Greener Enviroment

Earth Day promotions are a great way to raise awareness and spread the message of your company’s green efforts.

Are you a green company, or one aspiring to become greener?  This is the time to get your story and message out.  Earth Day is the one event you cannot afford to miss out on.  Doing so would be the equivalent of a jeweler passing on Valentine’s Day promotions!  Choosing thoughtful Earth Day gifts or giveaways remind clients and employees that we are concerned about what happens to our planet, and doubles as a lasting reminder to remain vigilant with the judgment we use everyday.

Adam Rome, a leading environmental historian, has called Earth Day the “most famous unknown event in modern American history.”  Prompted by then- Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, the first Earth Day was observed on April 22nd, 1970.  After touring the oil spill devastation on the coast ofSanta Barbara, Nelson drew on the idea of the popular teach-ins held on school campuses and aimed to unite environmental events organized at three colleges and extend them beyond the local university grounds.

Although Senator Nelson’s aim was to bring awareness of the environment to Washington, and he was satisfied he had done so, he saw no need to replicate Earth Day.  It was originally projected to be a one-time event.  But Earth Day has remained an important annual way to raise alertness of environmental issues on the local, state, and national level.  This year marks the 42nd anniversary of an event that started with an estimated 20 million Americans coming together across the country in support of our environment.

Many companies are striving to become greener, in turn encouraging their customers and employees to do the same.  As individuals, many of us choose to utilize companies that are aware of their environmental impact and act accordingly.  Earth Day promotions are a perfect way to spread their message and help remind us all to do our part.  Many promotional products suppliers are getting into the action by offering a larger selection of products that are considered green.  Products created using recycled, re-usable, or sustainable material are readily available throughout the industry.

Looking around it is easy to find simple, effective products that promote your company’s efforts.  Reusable water bottles have become increasingly popular, but everything from organic apparel to reusable tote bags can spread the message.  Pens are even being made from recycled water bottles.

At Maple Ridge Farms, we design our gifts to be as earth friendly as possible. On average, less than 4% (by weight) of any gift is destined for a landfill. The majority of our gifts include reusable boxes, cutting boards or desk accessories that will be used for years to come. All of our wood products are made from sustainable timber, such as our basswood wooden collector's boxes, and beautiful hardwood cutting boards crafted from the finest North American hardwoods, trees that are harvested and replanted right here in the United States.  Each wooden collector’s box in our line comes complete with a set of index tabs, creating a gift with a lasting impact.

Our L205 comes complete with delicious cheese and sausage, but the fire-branded cutting board offers a lasting gift made from sustainable bamboo.

In addition, over the past few years we have added striking bamboo cutting boards.  Bamboo is good news for the earth!  Not only is bamboo as durable as hardwood (and contains natural anti-microbial properties), it is a sustainable and naturally renewable resource.  Fast growing and harvestable in five years, bamboo is a grass that is organically grown without fertilizers or irrigation and it generates more oxygen than trees!

As a culture we are becoming continually more aware that we need to step up as and act responsibly when it comes to our planet.  Earth Day promotions help serve as every day reminders to do our part all year round.  Being educational, practical and responsible, it’s a great way to stand behind mother Earth and her inhabitants!
