Meeting Clients’ Needs for Kosher Gifts

It may be a market you have unintentionally overlooked - or intentionally ignored - but it’s easier than you think to provide your customers with kosher gourmet gifts for the holidays.

First, a bit of education to ensure you understand the concept of kosher food, that is, the Jewish dietary laws.

  • The law of kosher food is a law the Jewish people are called upon to observe based on their faith. The belief is that kosher food nourishes the Jewish soul, and foods prohibited by the Torah weaken it.

  • Only certain animals from land and sea – for example, cattle, sheep and fish - are considered kosher. The meat of kosher animals must then be prepared in certain ways in order for the meat to be kosher. (If products such as milk or eggs come from any forbidden animals, those products aren’t kosher.)

Other Jewish dietary laws involve separating dairy and meat, using kosher utensils, and certifying that food is kosher. Chances are you’ve noticed different kosher symbols on food labels. There are almost 700 agencies worldwide that certify kosher goods, and each agency has its own distinctive symbol indicating the manufacturer has contracted to ensure the ingredients and food preparation process are kosher.

Maple Ridge Farms’ 2011 line offers more than 150 kosher items. Click here to see some of our most popular kosher items and access our catalog with kosher certified items indicated in the product description.
