Changes in the Pipeline from UPS

UPS charges will now be based on the larger of either the dimensional weight or the actual weight.

UPS has announced a change in the way they are billing Ground, as well as Standard to Canada. Effective December 29, 2014: all packages will be charged based on the larger of either the dimensional weight or the actual weight. Dimensional weight enables them to more appropriately align rates with costs, which are influenced by both the size and weight of packages.

To determine the dimensional weight of a package, measure in inches at the longest point, rounding each measurement to the nearest whole number. Multiply the length, by the width, and height; result is the cubic inch size.  Divide this by 166 to determine dimensional weight in pounds, rounding to the next whole pound if necessary.

We look closely at the shipper carton to assure that it is the proper size to protect the package, but not add additional bulk.

These new pricing guidelines will encourage shippers to reduce excess packaging materials, and overall package sizes.  At Maple Ridge Farms we look closely at the shipping carton to assure that it is the proper size to protect the package, but does not add additional bulk. We use efficient insulation materials when necessary, which adds the needed temperature control without unnecessary bulk. See the past blog post Drop. . . Kick. . . Deliver! for additional info on What Maple Ridge Farms takes into consideration when shipping packages.

What UPS's changes mean for you is this: whether you ship product yourself occasionally or frequently, you need to be certain you have the most appropriate shipper each time. To save on shipping costs, consider arranging direct shipment from your suppliers to the recipient - Maple ridge Farms will drop ship for you, both bulk and to individuals, to save you time and money.
